SOL is the native cryptocurrency of the Solana blockchain. You need it to pay for "gas fees" – the tiny costs associated with every transaction, like sending money, listing an item, or interacting with our escrow contract.

Even if you plan to trade with stablecoins like USDC, you will always need a small amount of SOL in your wallet to process those transactions. We recommend starting with at least 0.1 SOL.

There are two primary methods to get SOL into your personal Phantom wallet.

Method 1: Centralized Exchange (Recommended for Beginners)
This is the most common method. You buy SOL on a major exchange and then withdraw it to your Phantom wallet.

  1. Buy SOL on an Exchange: Create an account on a trusted exchange like Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, or others that operate in your region. Purchase the amount of SOL you need.

  1. Find Your Phantom Address: Open your Phantom wallet. At the top, you'll see your wallet name and an address that starts with a random string of characters (e.g., 8n4iA...d5eF). Click on it to copy your Public Address. This is where you will receive the funds.

  1. Withdraw from the Exchange: In your exchange account, find the "Withdraw" or "Send" option for SOL. Paste your Phantom Public Address into the destination field.

NETWORK_ALERT: Ensure you select the **Solana (SOL)** network for the withdrawal. Choosing the wrong network will result in a permanent loss of funds.

Method 2: Using a Fiat On-Ramp
Phantom has built-in services like MoonPay or Coinbase Pay that allow you to buy crypto directly with a credit/debit card.

  1. Open your Phantom wallet and click the "Buy / Receive" button.
  2. Select "Buy" and follow the prompts from the integrated service.
  3. This method is very convenient but may have slightly higher fees than a centralized exchange.

Once you've sent the SOL, it should appear in your Phantom wallet within a minute or two, thanks to Solana's incredible speed. You'll see your balance update from 0.00 SOL to your new amount.

You are now fully operational. Your wallet is funded and ready for action.
